*warmly welcomed by both children and adults
*are easy to make
*can be made relatively quickly
*have a very happy feeling
For anyone who likes to make tiny things, this would be a fantastic gift for Christmas or birthdays.
Small, Very Small!
On one of the first pages in the book, it says "small is beautiful." It is true! But even more than beautiful, small objects can be devastatingly cute, and being able to tuck a tiny craft in your pocket makes them even more charming.
Microcrafts is a book full of ideas for miniature crafts by several micro-craft designers, so it contains a wonderful variety of projects to make, including tiny felt cats and dogs, walnut boats, tiny monsters, owls and teddy bears, tiny clay foods, miniature bird feeders for thistle seeds, weenie cards and books, and more.
The one that caught my eye first was the adorable teeny-tiny red cat on the cover of the book. I have made quite a few now, and I have to say they were not difficult. We have gone on to make more miniature felted animals, both in this book, and of our own making. All the instructions you need, including patterns, are included.
There are 25 miniature projects in this book, and I believe anyone who opens this book will find something that will appeal to them. Now i have a way to use up all those felt scraps I have saved! But it is not just a book of felt crafting - there is real variety in the crafting methods - cutting, felting, knotting, sculpting, crochet, knitting, and more. There is also a section on how to display these, or turn them into magnets, or jewelry.
I am sure anyone interested in crafts would love this book.
My most recent project... - A tiny Red Felt Bear in a Matchbox Bed
A tiny red felt bear in a matchbox bed is the most recent project I made from the MicroCrafts book, and he came out very well, don't you think? Because the projects are so small, they don't take as much time as a large project, and some of them are also very portable, so you can take them with you to work on if you have to wait in an office or have a moment between classes.
Please don't think that everything inside is made of felt. There is a wide variety of projects, but I just tend to like the tiny felt animals the best.
The matchbox I used is an old fashioned Chinese matchbox, and my children were delighted to discover this little fellow inside. I worry a little that someone might find it, and not knowing what it is, would throw it out, thinking it was just a matchbox. But then again, that isn't too likely!
The patterns are very simple, so they are easy to change if you want to - I liked the bow around the little bears neck, so I made more of a neck than the pattern called for, and it was easier to tie the ribbon. You don't have to be a master sewer to make these cute little companions!
